Eating Consciously for a Sustainable Body

BODY

A Sustainable body is a healthy body that is performing to its fullest capacity. Food is the fuel for your body. What, when and how you eat can have a significant impact on your health and overall well-being. Eating consciously is listening to your body and giving your body the food that it needs to be sustainable.

Make Food Choices That Suit Your Body

Experiment with food observe how your body feels after eating a certain type of food - does it make you feel lethargic or does it make you feel energetic and vibrant. Once you start eating consciously you will quickly learn what food is good for your body and what is not good.

Give Your Body the Time Needed to Digest Food

When eating consciously you give your body the time it needs to complete digestion properly before consuming more food. Did you know? After you eat, it takes about six to eight hours for food to pass through your stomach and small intestine. Food then enters your large intestine (colon) for further digestion, absorption of water and, finally, elimination of undigested food. If you know how much time your food takes to digest inside your stomach, you can plan your menu accordingly for the intended benefits. Here’s a list of food items, to help you know the time taken by a particular food item to digest.

  • Raw fruit: 40 - 60 minutes

  • Bananas : 2 to 3 hours

  • Raw veggies: 30 - 40 minutes

  • Oats: 1.5 hours

  • Dairy products: 2 hours

  • Bread: 2 hours

  • Nuts: 3 hours

  • Cooked veggies: 40 minutes
